The world of Kildare, expatriate princess of Faerie and star of Aria, gets turned upside down when Goodfellow, the deadly, mischievous sprite immortalized in Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, comes to New York. Convinced that Goodfellow’s intentions are considerably less than pure, Kildare sifts through his trail of riddles and lies, trying to figure out just what is he is up to. Her search leads to an underground soul market, where the immortal spirits of humans are bought, sold and traded — and to, the memory of Kildare’s long forgotten love. Meanwhile, Kildare’s friend Ondine becomes obsessed with her own lack of a soul and becomes determined to gain one at any cost.

What Price a Soul? The malevolent trickster called Goodfellow has stated his terms: Kildare is to protect him from the nameless Dread which is following him, bent on revenge. In exchange, Goodfellow will release the soul of Thomas, a past lover of Kildare’s, a soul he now literally holds in the palm of his hand. The bargain seems simple enough, but Kildare has known Goodfellow long enough to ever take him at his word. Plus, it seems, Kildare has a few tricks of her own up her sleeve.

Lady Kildare, a 900-year-old Faerie Princess living in modern day New York, serves as the unofficial matriarch of a small group of displaced mythic beings. Among them are the dwarven warrior called the Pug; Ondine, an itinerant water sprite; the semiretired god of revels, Dion; and the half- faerie, half-mortal street poet, Child Roland.
